Most people don't realise you can get DHL to come straight to your door β no queues, no driving to a service point, no hunting for a drop-off counter. You fill in a form, confirm your address, and a DHL driver shows up to collect. That's it.
YellowBeeX has been arranging DHL Express pickups across Singapore since 2002. Whether you're shipping a single box to Malaysia or a pallet of samples to Europe, here's exactly how the DHL door-to-door collection process works β and how we make it even easier.
Two Ways to Schedule a DHL Pickup in Singapore
There are two routes to getting DHL to collect from your address. Both result in the same DHL driver at your door β but the experience and cost are quite different.
Option 1: Book directly with DHL
You can visit dhl.com, create a MyDHL+ account, enter your shipment details, and schedule a pickup yourself. The process works, but you'll be paying DHL's published retail rates. You're also responsible for completing all the customs documentation, including the commercial invoice and HS codes. If anything is wrong, delays land on you.
Option 2: Book via YellowBeeX (recommended)
YellowBeeX facilitates shipments through our DHL Express business account, active since 2002. You send us your shipment details via WhatsApp, we prepare the Air Waybill (AWB) and handle the customs paperwork, and we confirm everything before the driver arrives. You get DHL Express pickup, tracking, and international transit, with local booking support. No MyDHL+ account needed.
Same-Day DHL Collection: The 12PM Rule
One of the most common questions we get: "Can DHL collect today?" The answer is usually yes β if you move quickly.
If you book with us and confirm payment before 12PM noon on a weekday, DHL will typically collect your parcel on the same business day. Book after 12PM and your pickup is scheduled for the next business day. Here's how the schedule works:
| Book By | Pickup Day |
|---|---|
| Before 12PM (MonβFri) | Same business day |
| After 12PM (MonβFri) | Next business day |
| Saturday (any time) | Monday |
| Sunday (any time) | Monday |
Public holidays follow the same logic β if DHL isn't operating, your pickup moves to the next available business day. We'll always confirm your scheduled pickup date in the WhatsApp booking confirmation.
What to Prepare Before the DHL Driver Arrives
DHL collection is smooth as long as your shipment is ready when the driver shows up. Here's your pre-pickup checklist:
- Pack and seal your parcel completely. The driver cannot wait while you tape up a box. All items must be inside, cushioned, and the box fully sealed before they arrive.
- Print the AWB (Air Waybill). After you book with us, we'll send you the AWB label via WhatsApp. Print it in full colour or black-and-white β both work.
- Attach the AWB to the largest flat face of the box. Make sure all four sides of the label are secure and the barcode is not folded or obscured. DHL scans this label at collection.
- Have a signed commercial invoice ready if you're shipping goods (not documents). We'll help you prepare this when you book β it covers what's inside, the declared value, and the HS code for customs.
- Be present, or arrange for someone to hand over the parcel. The driver needs a physical handover and may ask for a signature. They won't leave without collecting it from a person.
No printer at home? Let us know when booking. We can arrange to have the label printed and attached for you β just tell the driver to wait 2 minutes when he arrives at your door.
The Pickup Window: What to Expect
DHL does not offer specific pickup time slots in Singapore. When you schedule a DHL collection, you're booking a full-day window β typically 9AM to 6PM on the confirmed pickup day. The driver routes are planned the morning of collection, so there's no way to request a specific hour in advance.
That said, DHL's SMS and app notification system will usually send you an estimated arrival window once the driver's route is confirmed β often a 2β3 hour window sent mid-morning. We'll also pass on any updates we receive from DHL's system to you via WhatsApp.
If you miss the driver, DHL will leave a missed collection notice and attempt one more pickup. To avoid this, make sure someone is at the address for the whole day, or arrange for a neighbour or reception desk to receive the driver.
What Happens After Your Parcel Is Collected
Once the driver scans your AWB at collection, you'll see the first tracking event appear: "Shipment picked up." From that point, the parcel is in DHL's network.
Here's what happens next:
- Hub sorting at Changi. Your parcel is transported to DHL's Singapore gateway facility at Changi Airport for sorting and export clearance processing.
- Export customs clearance. DHL handles Singapore export clearance automatically. For shipments with a commercial invoice, the declared value is verified at this stage.
- International flight. The parcel departs Singapore on a DHL Express flight to the destination country's hub.
- Import clearance and last-mile delivery. DHL's local partner in the destination country clears the parcel through customs and arranges final delivery to the recipient.
We'll send you the tracking number via WhatsApp after the AWB is generated. You can track your shipment anytime at yellowbeex.com/tracking.html β or directly on DHL's website using the same tracking number.
BeeConcierge: We Pack AND Collect
If your items aren't packed yet β or if you want the reassurance of professional packaging before handing your goods to an international courier β consider our BeeConcierge add-on.
A YellowBeeX team member visits your home or office, packs everything correctly using appropriate materials (bubble wrap, foam inserts, double-walled boxes), labels the parcel, and hands it directly to DHL. You don't need to lift a finger. The add-on starts from SGD $6 depending on your location and parcel complexity.
BeeConcierge is especially popular for fragile items, odd-shaped products, and customers who travel frequently and need an agent they can trust to manage everything end-to-end. Learn more about our BeeConcierge doorstep service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does someone need to be home for the DHL pickup?
Yes. Someone must be physically present to hand over the parcel and sign for the collection. DHL drivers cannot leave without receiving the shipment from a person at the address. If you're at work, arrange for a family member, helper, or reception desk to be there.
Can I schedule a specific pickup time?
No β DHL provides a full-day collection window, not a specific hour. They don't offer morning-only or afternoon-only slots in Singapore. You'll typically receive an estimated 2β3 hour window via SMS on the day of pickup once DHL confirms the driver's route.
What if my parcel isn't ready when the driver arrives?
You can reschedule β WhatsApp us as soon as possible and we'll contact DHL to push the collection to the next available slot. Note that rescheduling on the day is not always guaranteed, so it's best to have everything ready the night before.
Do I need to print anything?
Yes β the AWB label must be printed and securely attached to the outside of your parcel before the driver arrives. If you don't have a printer, let us know in advance and we can arrange label printing as part of the collection.
Can I use my own box?
Absolutely. DHL doesn't require you to use their branded packaging. Just make sure your box is sturdy enough for international transit, properly sealed with strong packing tape, and that fragile items are adequately cushioned inside. If you're unsure, our BeeConcierge team can assess and re-pack for you.
